I am a resident and taxpayer at 40 Palazzo Way, American Canyon, Ca 94503 writing to formally register a persistent public safety hazard. Unauthorized vehicles block our private driveway wings daily, trapping our household.
Managing this has become a second job. When I call the non-emergency dispatch line, responding officers only call the vehicle owners to move instead of issuing citations or towing. As soon as one car leaves, a new one takes its place.
To solve this, I formally requested that the city paint the 18-inch sloped wings of our driveway red, strictly adhering to American Canyon Municipal Code Section 10.32.170. Shockingly, Public Works staff denied my request, claiming a red curb is "redundant" and instructing me to just keep calling the ineffective non-emergency loop.
Telling a tax-paying resident to police the public right-of-way while denying a basic, codified municipal service is a classic bureaucratic runaround. Official red curb markings carry a psychological weight drivers respect and strip away excuses for parking enforcement.
I urge the City Council and City Manager to intervene and instruct Public Works to fulfill ACMC 10.32.170 by painting my driveway wings red to restore safe, reliable emergency access to my home.
