My opposition to the extension of Watson Lane to Marcus road in the Watson Ranch community for several reasons. I have lived in American Canyon for 38 years and seen lots of changes. Some good, some not so good. Those living in Watson Ranch probably do need another access road. The fact that the Newel extension will take 10years and the developer cannot wait that long,I am sorry to hear that, but I wonder why the infrastructure of roads was not completed before thousands of houses were built? All of a sudden the developer is concerned about safety and traffic leaving that area.I will explain why I find that difficult to believe. I drove on Watson Lane today. Haven't been there in a long time. It is part of American Canyon. The road is expected to take over,at minimum 15ft of each of the 15 ranches on that lane, some of whom have lived there all their lives and families since the 1800's. Think about that for a moment. Don't we have concern for these people and properties? The traffic down that small strip will be unbelievable. As I drove down the road, the grading of the land just south and seemingly butted up against the properties was massive. For housing, as I was told. More houses, more traffic down that small road. I am curious, have there been environmental studies done regarding traffic flow, potential air pollution, independent environmental studies done on the land as it affects plant and animal life. I believe there should be more research done on this proposal. I believe we should have Town Hall meetings where all the people can have a voice. I don't want developers to decide what we should do with our community. If the developer was wrong in not getting the roads in place before the houses, the first time. Why do we believe him the Watson Lane is the only path forward this time? Mr.Mcgrath wants the city council to move forward on Measure M by either adopting it as a law or placing it on the ballot in November. Please do not adopt Measure M as law . Please allow community members to speak up at Town Halls regarding this issue.
I vote NO for measure M. I'm hoping that all who read this will also vote NO.
I, too, was one of the people who innocently went to the ruins to check it out and get free taco's. A nice woman who greeted us at the entrance asked us to sign a petition to open a road so that they could get to work more conveniently (something to that effect). Little did we know that they would have to take land away from long-time residents, and subject them to the daily noise levels and pollution of all the car traffic which will flow down the potentially new road.
I know this first hand since they opened a new school at Wetlands Edge and Eucalyptus. And now an endless amount of traffic flows in front of our house in the mornings, at lunch time, and in the afternoon. Before we had peace, quiet, and the best clean air in the area. Now we get noise, exhaust fumes, and have to be careful crossing the streets with my dog.
I, my wife, and a couple of other friends feel the same way. We all went on the same day to see the ruins for the first time. Little did we know that this was a ruse to get people to sign-up for a petition that is BAD. The developers and any city politicians involved in this ruse should feel ashamed of themselves!
Vote No on Measure M!!!
I strongly support the resolution accepting the Watson Lane/Marcus Road initiative petition. As Watson Ranch develops into a thriving community space, having this vital circulation connection between State Route 29 and Newell Drive is essential. It provides much-needed additional access and will significantly alleviate traffic congestion in our neighborhoods. - Loan Ly, American Canyon Resident
I'm new to American Canyon - I moved here last July into Watson's Ranch with my husband, two little girls, and two dogs. As a family we've lived in 3 states in the last two years thanks to the Air Force - I say this to say we've experienced life in the south, the mid west, the border of Mexico and what infrastructure looks like in all of those places.
Considering the number of homes that are being built, without an end in sight, within Watson Ranch - another exit within a short time frame is not only a relief in traffic on 29, but for me a safety issue. My biggest concern moving to California is/was wildfires. If the hills that I look at every day while I'm walking my dogs were to light on fire, and there's only 2 exit routes (Rolling Hills and Newell dr) - one of which may be compromised due to it's proximity to those hills, we're down to 1 exit for hundred of families to get out of here.
A few weeks ago we had a police chase within the neighborhood ending in Lemos Pointe Apartments because the driver had no where else to go. The ensuing drones overhead (I live on Marcus Road and look at those apartments every day) not only woke my up children, but triggered my husband's PTSD that lead to a hour's long anxiety attack in the middle of the night. Had there been another exit in the neighborhood, this wouldn't have disrupted our night and put us in potential danger (thank goodness for our American Canyon police department for the way they handled this!).
While I greatly feel for those on Watson Lane - change is hard and this isn't the life they envisioned for themselves living there, it appears the only other solution is expanding Newell Drive. Which I have yet to see or hear any concrete plans for - if there are concrete plans, please, please make them obnoxiously public. Having the whole picture of how traffic will flow throughout the community is paramount for safety and quality of life.
I support Measure M and the ease it will bring to my safety and security worries.
