We would like to thank you for moving forward with the Regional Climate Action and Adaptation Plan. You are taking a big step forward—committing, as an entire county, to taking action on climate change. And it’s a common-sense strategy: as a rural county with a low population, we can be more effective with a regional approach.
The Plan will help you evaluate and prioritize future actions, but we applaud you for not waiting for an official plan to tackle reducing emissions. You have already prevented additional fossil fuel gas stations. You have supported all-electric housing projects. You are making active transportation safer and more attractive with every street repaving project. Thank you!
The Adaptation Strategies in the Plan will be useful because they can provide a ‘climate lens’ to evaluate future projects. For example, Do you need to set aside additional land for wetlands expansion to protect against future sea level rise? Can native plants and porous pavement be incorporated into projects to reduce water use and increase rainwater retention?
Putting a climate lens on every decision you make improves the quality of life for American Canyon residents by making the air cleaner, the water supply more secure, and neighborhoods greener and cooler. Please keep moving forward with the RCAAP and with climate action as a high priority.
