Thank you for reviewing the General Plan. I am unable to make this meeting since I am out of the country, but I am requesting that increased acreage be set aside for conservation and wildlife in contiguous parcels so that there are corridors and safe places for animal habitat. These would be areas where public access would be restricted, as well. With the new roads planned, and the existing highway 29, I am also requesting that land bridges for safe animal crossing be considered in the building of these roads. From these maps, I can see there will be very little land available for local wildlife. Actually, none. The Newell Property has lost its eagles and Swainson Hawks. With increased public use, cattle grazing and racing mountain bikes, wildlife has fled the area. The wetlands park is also heavily utilized by people and dogs. Wildlife has nowhere left to hide or procreate. The populations are dying off. With the continued development, as planned on these maps, the destruction to the rural and wild aspect to this community will seriously destroy much of the wildlife that's left, unless protections are put in place. I am asking for a biological study, an inventory, on what wildlife remains within the city limits. A count. We can have a better idea of whether there's anything left to protect. As the south of Napa County develops, the EIR's on the industrial parks all concur that wildlife has "plenty of space, " with adjoining properties and the Newell Preserve. However, all those adjoining properties are also slated for development, and the Newell Property hasn't had a complete biological resources report done since 1988. And, the public has had unfettered access to the preserve for the past decade, no one knows how much has been destroyed or protected. Is it really this city's goal to annihilate all wildlife? Or, can areas be set aside for conservation for wildlife only? Can we protect what is left? We need a survey, a place to start. City officials could also coordinate this effort with Napa County Planning, which is approving all these development projects with no regard to what land is going to be available for wildlife. This needs to be seriously considered. Urban sprawl is not healthy for any of us, especially the wildlife. Please consider a wildlife/conservation component to the general plan. Places where public access is restricted. Thank you.
