Dear American Canyon City Council Members and City staff,

I am writing in support of the Municipal Code Amendment that will prohibit smoking of all types in multi family residences and common living areas. FHNV is committed to equal housing opportunities for all people, and this includes full access to, and enjoyment of, their homes. Secondhand smoke may impact residents and neighbors nonsmoker’s rights to breathe smoke-free air at their place of residence.

Research has shown the negative impacts of secondhand smoke on all people, though children, seniors, and residents with disabilities or related medical conditions are especially susceptible to these effects. The proposed ordinance can limit the effects of secondhand smoke in multi family housing settings, protecting the health- and right to enjoyment of their homes- of residents and neighbors alike. Thank you for considering this ordinance.

    Received from Michele Grupe:

Dear American Canyon City Council Members and City staff,

I am writing in support of the Municipal Code Amendment that will prohibit smoking of all types in residential living units and common living areas where secondhand smoke may impact nonsmoker’s rights to breathe smoke-free air at their place of residence. This support is in alignment with the Policy Platform of the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) of Napa County to ‘support policies that protect clean air and water, and minimizes the negative impacts of climate change.’

Research has shown the negative impacts of secondhand smoke on children and their caregivers, causing lifelong health implications. Thank you for considering this ordinance and CAPC’s support.
