I support Option 2 for the relocation of the Skate Park. Also encourage council to think forward and add more parking in the area, it is needed now and will be in more demand once the Skate park is built.
I would also like to advocate for the AC Emergency Food Pantry currently run by the Kiwanis Club to have a sizable dedicated space for the ACE Food Pantry at the Napa Junction site. Such resource for the community is of great value. We as a City must lookout for the members of the community in need.

Fully supportive of the skatepark move. Many of us skaters understand that It isn't in the best location currently with the school and having the parks center open the skatepark during the days, some days they wouldn't even open it at all. I wish it could possibly be in a better location not across the highway, but I hope in the future American Canyon has plans for an overpass or something much safer, as much of the city's skaters live on the side with ACMS. I would much prefer Option 2 of the skatepark, as it has much more for many of us to utilize. There should be some more seating possibly on the sidelines. The stairset in the middle of the box on the right side as shown as well should be removed, there is not enough room for skaters to utilize the space to jump down them for tricks, and would be better as a full ramp. Thanks.

The American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation (ACCPF) supports the staff recommendation to relocate the City’s Corporation Yard to the new Napa Junction location. The creative reuse of both the Corp Yard and the former Napa Junction school property highlights the best of what both locations offer to the community.

At Napa Junction the move provides a new, centralized Corporation Yard with easy access to facilities and parks throughout the city. The new recreation space will allow for an expansion of City programming and much needed community rentals.

At the Corporation Yard, the move provides an important first step toward the decades long vision of transforming the site into wetlands focused park and education space.

Both sites hold tremendous potential for community use, yet neither are available for public access. We commend the City for taking the first steps to move these projects forward and support the staff recommendation as presented tonight.

    Thank you,

    Janelle Sellick, ACCPF Executive Director
On behalf of the ACCPF Board of Directors

Thank you for bringing this discussion of uses for the former Napa Junction School to the public.

Since the pandemic, the American Canyon Emergency Food Pantry, managed by the Kiwanis Club, has provided about 50 tons of food to people in our community. Individuals and businesses in the American Canyon community have stepped up through their donations ($70,000 and 125 barrels of food in the last three years) and volunteer participation.

Currently, we give out food once a month and on an emergency basis. American Canyon residents can pick up two boxes of non-perishable goods, one provided by our food pantry and the other from the US Department of Agriculture. Our food storage area isn’t appropriate for general-public use, so we distribute the food at the Aquatic Center parking lot. Thank you for allowing us to use the Aquatic Center parking lot for this purpose.

If we had a dedicated classroom or two near a parking lot at the former Napa Junction School, we could have a publicly accessible location for food storage and our monthly food distribution. We also could consider using this space to provide another location and time for a “choice” model of food distribution, which is what the Napa Food Bank does at Harvest Church twice a month. Residents could pick up the food items they want and need rather than the standard box of food we put together each month. I believe this will add greater dignity for our residents in need. My hope is that the City Council Members decide this is a great enough benefit to our community to provide this space to Kiwanis and the American Canyon Emergency Food Pantry at no or very limited cost.

As a Mom, I would have great reservations on letting my child going to the Skate Park at the former Napa Junction Elem site. The site is so isolated from the public and police. Security would be a huge issue to me. That may change over time but right now the site has always been hidden and open to unlawful things to happening over the years. I realize that you have to move the skate park but I feel it we are asking for a lot of trouble with the park being so hidden. Question....If the site was not safe due to a fault that runs through that site, hence why the school was moved. Why are you potentially putting people at risk, again, by turning the whole site into a park complex?
